After sourcing the components best for your PC and building the machine of your dreams, your next question should really be: ‘How do I maintain the life and performance of my gaming PC?’ The answer requires dedication and future investment but if you are passionate about your machine then it should be an easy decision.

Step One: Upgrade Your PC When Needed

The powers of technology are growing day by day. With new available software and hardware coming online on a daily basis, upgrading your machine will keep it performing to its fullest potential. All PCs are made of different components and are therefore able to be swapped out for newer, higher specs that can improve performance. When your machine starts to perform slower or isn’t capable of handling the latest data or games that is when you should be looking into upgrading your machine.
One way to gauge if an upgrade is worthwhile is to look at the latest component to be released and compare it to the component you have. For graphics cards especially it is always worth knowing the maximum capabilities of what you could have compared to what you do have. This makes the decision of upgrading much simpler. Another way to understand if an upgrade is worthwhile is by looking at the newest released game and seeing if your spec meets the required minimum. If it doesn’t, then that could be cause to upgrade.

Step Two: Disk Defragging

When data is stored in a PC it is stored in blocks on the hard drive and over time, as new data is written to the hard drive, some of the information that used to be close to each other spreads apart… meaning your drive will take longer to access the data you need. Disk defragging will put the blocks back in sequential order so your hard drive doesn’t have to work overtime to get to the data, so it processes information quicker and performs to a higher standard.
Disk defragging is a default action that comes on all Windows operated machines and can be found by simply searching for ‘defragmenter’ upon the task bar. It is recommended you defrag your machine about once a year so that all the data is rearranged to remain within the same block of the hard drive. Although defragging can be a lengthy process it is still useful to reroute your data.

Step Three: Regular Security Checks and Clean-Ups

As with all PCs, you want to make sure your gaming PC is constantly protected and has as little junk and temporary files as possible. A stable antivirus programme would help aid this as it protects the PC from unwanted files and potential threats AV software, such as BullGuard, covers machines for security measures such as Firewall, Spam Filtering, Parental Controls and more whilst performing regular checks to monitor the safety and health of your machine. Should BullGuard or any AV software flag any threats or unneeded files it would be in your best interest to immediately issue an action to resolve the issue, putting your machine back into a protected status. Clean-ups will help with the build-up of temporary or junk files as it will assess each document and delete those that are unused or cause of harm.

These are just our top 3 steps to maintaining your PC but do not be fooled as there are hundreds of nifty tips and tricks available to keep your machine up and running, just ask our team! Call us on 01737 247090 or visit in store to not only guarantee your machine stays protected but to also find new methods to ensure you’re never at risk or under performing again!

Event report from Jodie Upton, Sweethaven Retail Team Member

On Saturday 27th August, Sweethaven welcomed gaming legend @Officialmgh through our doors to host the biggest FIFA gaming event in Reigate history. With a rush of people throughout the day there were FIFA tournaments, Virtual Reality demonstrations, raffle prizes and more!

Contenders travelled from across the region to show off their FIFA gaming skills in the bid to win the highly anticipated pre-order of FIFA ’17… and the atmosphere was electric.

Below shows our competitors and @Officialmgh prepping before the big game!

Kick Off:

Kick off started at 12 noon with various qualifying rounds and competitors arriving from all over the South East to take on the infamous MGH. With knock-out stages proving who would claim the title of the best-of-the best, tensions were running high and it was game on!

The Champion:

So who won the Sweethaven Championship and got the chance to take MGH himself? None other than our Sweethaven hero, @DezmondBDBC. He put up a strong fight and scored hat tricks over his competition!

Each competitor fought diligently and although they may not have been awarded the title of Champ, they had their own successes and wins throughout the day. Congratulations to our raffle winner, @connormanning15, and a massive thank you to all that came down to visit us for a great day of gaming. Whether you were scoring in FIFA or taking on aliens through virtual reality, the event was a success and there were winners all round!

The Sweethaven team consists of some heavy and passionate gamers. After hours of arguments and general discussion we’ve compiled our Top 5 Current Games. Read our list and tell us what you think! Do you agree with our list? What games did we miss out?

  1. Fortnite Battle Royale-

Fortnite Battle Royale allows up to 100 players in either solo’s, duos and squads to do battle against other individuals or teams. Last one standing wins. You begin by landing on the map with nothing but a pickaxe. You then have to gather resources and build bases, bridges and much more to survive. As well as this you need to collect weapons, armour and traps to progress and eliminate enemies. Over time a ‘storm’ begins shrinking and you will need to get in the safe zone. This circle shrinks and shrinks until eventually there is only individual or team standing, victorious. Why do we love it?

  • It’s free to play! You can buy items but it is not necessary.
  • Constant updates! New game modes, guns and updates are added on a regular basis to make the game more enjoyable.
  • Cartoon style! Unique to other battle royal games.
  1. Overwatch –

Overwatch is a squad based combat game that consists of two teams of six. There are several characters to select from that each have their own unique abilities. The game is quite tactical in terms that there are four character roles. Offence, defence, tank and support, each has its own benefits. Before each game you are informed of your team’s weaknesses so you can make changes to find a game more balanced. Overwatch consist of several game modes including: casual matchmaking, weekly brawls, custom games and competitive game modes. Why do we love it?

  • Innovative first person shooting.
  • Tactics, strategy and team work. Unlike other first person shooter games that rely on who gets the most kills, there is a huge element of strategy and tactics to defeating your opposition.
  • A wide variety of characters to use with stories to tell.
  1. Rainbow Six Siege-

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is a first person shooter game in which you are either in a team of attackers or defenders. There are several game modes that include: hostage, bomb, secure area, terrorist hunt, situations and tactical realism. You can play as several Counter Terrorism Units and play as different operators in the team to try and take down the enemy. The game is very tactically and strategically based, full of destruction on behalf of both teams. Why do we love it?

  • Intense gameplay.
  • A lot of strategy and tactics involved making it challenging yet extremely entertaining.
  • Room for imagination on how to go about attacking or defending.
  1. Play Unknown’s Battle Grounds (PUBG)-

Another Battle Royal made it on to our list. This game has the same concept as Fortnite where you drop into the map, you have to scavenge for weapons and equipment and there is also a circle closing in on you. Last player or team standing, wins. 100 players split into solo’s or teams. Based on well you do each game you earn in game currency that you can use to purchase crates. Why do we love it?

  • Different to Fortnite. Not cartoon based, more ‘real life’ so to speak, graphics of a high quality.
  • Very unpredictable due to large map, no one is ever in a favourable position to win.
  • In depth game mechanics for weapon modifications, character customisation etc.
  1. Rocket League-

This game simply put, is football using rocket powered cars. A football match with cars with elements of a demolition derby because you can blow opponents up. You can collect boosts to get more speed and subsequently hit the ball harder and further. There are several game modes in which you can play solo and in teams. There are a variety of vehicles to choose from that each have their benefits. If a game is tied, it goes to overtime. Why do we love it?

  • A lot of solo and team game modes including standard football as well as playing basketball.
  • Competitive feel to the game makes it addicting, especially playing with a team!
  • Skill based game so it is rewarding when you begin earning experience.

What did you think of our list? What game did we miss out? Which is better Fortnite or PUBG? Let us know below!

P.S We have a new gaming event coming up soon! Stay tuned for more information.

Coming up with a list of only 10 games that give us nostalgia was a challenge, considering we all had terrific suggestions. When making this list we all began to remember great memories playing some childhood classics. The games on this list consist of games we played on several consoles from the N64 to the PS2 and more! Does Pokémon make the cut? Check out our list!

1. Simpsons Hit & Run –

The game Simpsons Hit & Run follows the life of the Simpson family and some other loved characters. Throughout the game there are several strange occurrences that begin to occur in Springfield. There are seven main levels as well as other side missions that contribute to an intriguing yet entertaining game full of activities to do. Growing up, The Simpsons was a TV series that everyone loved to watch and this game was no different. The ability to free roam was highly entertaining and there was always a lot to do in terms of missions, exploring the map and collecting new items such as clothing and cars. The game was full of laughs and excitement making it really enjoyable still to this day.

2. Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2 –

The original Star Wats Battlefront games consisted of single player and multiplayer all out action. Both have single player campaigns as well as many more single player game modes. You can also play multiplayer. There are various maps as well as characters to pick from to play with. The maps also consist of space encounters which expands what you can do with the game. The campaign specifically on Battlefront 2 is extremely gripping and interesting to play especially because it links with the occurrences of the films. Unlike the Star Wars Battlefront games we have today, the classic Battlefront games were fun, long lasting so you wouldn’t get more straight away and they contained the whole game not just a lot of DLC that you have to pay for on top of the existing game. It is no wonder that these older games are still playable today. These two iconic games had it all and they continue to be great.

3. COD 4 –

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooting game. This game unlike those previous to it is based around modern days. The campaign focuses on conflicts around the Middle East due to the execution of a president as well as civil war movements in Russia. The perspective is of the U.S Marine Force and the British SAS. As well as a brilliant campaign the game consists of modern based multiplayer action with several game modes. The first modern day Call of Duty did not disappoint. There was a lot of action on single player and multiplayer with a lot to do. The campaign was extremely intense and entertaining. With many online game modes, the game did not get boring and essentially changed the game not only for Call of Duty, but other shooter games.

4. RuneScape –

This game takes place in the world of Gielinor which is a medieval fantasy realm consisting of several kingdoms that you can explore on foot, through spells or ships. Within each region there are different challenges to face in the shape of monsters and quests. You could customise your own character and focus on your own goals as there was no storyline to follow. There was always a lot to do on RuneScape. RuneScape was extremely addicting and fun to play. By exploring the map there would always be a lot of activities and the fact that you could play with your friends was even better. You could do quests, battles and trades with people across the servers. You could talk to people through a chat which at the time was also really cool. The aspect of obtaining resources was also extremely fun, in general this was a brilliant game that is still going strong today.

5. GTA: San Andreas-

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is an action/adventure game played in a third-person perspective in an open world environment meaning you as the player could interact with the in game world how you please. The game is set in the fictional state of San Andreas where the campaign follows the story of “CJ” as he tries to re-establish his gang life after the murder of his mother. San Andreas is considered to be one of the greatest video games ever made. The campaign story was brilliant, gripping and extremely entertaining. The music, cut-scenes and gameplay in general really fit in with the story and made it extremely fun. The freedom within the game was also new and extremely amusing as you had a lot to do.

6. Need for Speed Franchise

The Need for Speed franchise is a series of racing video games. These races consist usually of street racing and evading the police pursuits. Each game will have a campaign to it where you race as you progress through the story and outside of the story through free roaming. Car customisation is also a unique feature that lets you get involved more, customising your own supercars. The Need for Speed games have always been extremely fun because there is a lot to do. The racing aspect doesn’t get old especially considering within each game there is a huge selection of super cars to purchase, earn and ultimately customise. Racing your friends, others online and evading the police makes the game very entertaining.

7. Spyro & Crash Bandicoot

I know we said 10 but we couldn’t miss out any of these two heroes so we decided it was only fair to include the both! Especially because over time they’ve had several crossovers!

The Spyro series follows the adventures of Spyro the Dragon and his loyal companion Sparx the Dragonfly. From freeing fellow Dragons across the world from crystal prisons to defeating Malefor, The Dark Master from destroying the world, across the Spyro series there are many quests to take on and meet new friends along the way. Spyro, when first introduced was an extremely fun game in which you could do a lot of quests and explore lots of areas. Every Spyro game was different in terms of the combat system and the gameplay always improved. In one Spyro you could even level up Spyro and improve his spells and combat which was really fun.

The Crash Bandicoot series follows the story of a bandicoot named Crash who lives a quiet life on the Wumpa Islands but always has to stop his creator Dr Neo Cortex who wants to kill Crash and gain world domination. There are many games in this series. Crash Bandicoot has always been a fun game with a funny storyline to it. The gameplay was fun which made it a very popular game.

8. Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts follows the story of mainly Sora and his friends Riku and Kairi that all get separated from their home island. On Sora’s adventures he teams up with characters from several Disney, Final Fantasy, The World Ends with You and Pixar worlds. Throughout these games you would adventure to defeat enemies across different planets. The storyline is simply brilliant and. All nine games have brilliant storylines to follow and you travel from world to world, it doesn’t get boring. From flying Aladdin’s carpet to swinging with Tarzan there are so many characters to meet as friends and foes. The story is gripping, exciting and really detailed which makes the games amazing.

9. Pokémon Franchise, but specifically Red, Blue, Green & Yellow

How could we not talk about one of the most iconic games of the 90’s and still highly popular today? The concept of Pokémon is to catch fictional characters called Pokémon and train them to be the best. You usually start off in a small town and always have a local neighbour as your rival throughout the whole game. During this game you begin with your starter Pokémon and battle people throughout the story to try and catch all the Pokémon. The usual objectives of the game are to collect all Pokémon, defeat the gym leaders, defeat the bad guys and your rival too. Throughout the individual game there are a lot of side quests and bonus missions that you can do. The games all have really fun stories, new Pokémon, characters and the gameplay in general continuously improves. The story doesn’t get boring and it is really challenging as you progress throughout the game, giving you a sense of achievement when you collect all Pokémon, defeat all the Gyms and stop the bad guys. Why Red, Blue, Green & Yellow? Well, all Pokémon games are enjoyable but these contain the main Pokémon from the original series! Growing up these are the Pokémon we remember!

10. GoldenEye

Talk about a throwback! One of the oldest and the last game on this list is an absolute classic! GoldenEye is a first-person shooter game based on the James Bond film, GoldenEye. This game had both single player and multiplayer modes which were really fun. For a game that is now 20+ years old the graphics and gameplay were superb! The single player campaign story was detailed and enjoyable making it extremely fun to play. The multiplayer mode was entertaining as you could play with up to four others in various forms of death match. As mentioned, for a now very old game there was so much to do and it was very detailed in terms of weapons, graphics and storyline. A brilliant game we all miss playing!

So there is our list of 10 games that give us Nostalgia. What do you think of our list? What games did we miss out? Let us know below!

On Saturday 7th April, Sweethaven hosted a gaming event that was not to be missed! Fortnite: Battle Royale was the featured game chosen for the event. But with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on display for use, there was plenty to do for everyone!

With over 60 attendants confirmed for the event, we knew we had ourselves a great day ready! To make the event more fun we decided to host 3 different championships throughout the day. Competitors took turns in gaming and after each time slot there could only be one winner… The competitor with the best overall finish! With the help of Tech Data UK and Asus Republic of Gamers, the event was ready…

10AM – Midday

Our first winner was…

Samuel Songhurst! Here’s Samuel with his older brother Charlie and our very own gaming specialist, Jason Thrumble!

Samuel had some strong competition from these guys but in the end, he was victorious! Well done Samuel!

Midday – 2PM

Our second winner was…

William Mercer! Huge well done to William who not only won his time slot championship but also managed to get 1st place! Great achievement, congratulations William!

2PM – 4PM

Our final winner was…

Max Weiner Hurriaga!

With the day coming to an end there was some last minute drama! Max and his two brothers Santi and Alex competed right until the end until there was a showdown between Max and brother Alex. It was an intense finale but Max got the all important victory!

A huge Sweethaven well done to Samuel, William and Max! They took home their respective prizes and the crown for their time slot!

However, having observed the competition on Saturday, we are sure they are going to have to work hard to each defend their crowns in upcoming battles…

Stay tuned for our next gaming event coming soon! Is there something in particular you’d like to you to see for the next event? What games would interest you the most? Let us know via the comments box below!

On Saturday 5th May, Team Sweethaven travelled to Milton Keynes to compete against hosts Mirus-IT and Air-IT in a MSP Showdown. With 5 games to determine the winning MSP, who would come out on top?

After a two-hour journey up north, the Sweethaven League had arrived and we meant business! Going into the event there had been some serious trash talk between each MSP, however we were quietly confident that we would come out victorious! So how did we get on in each game?

Representing Sweethaven for the FIFA we had Diogo, Jake, Luke and Joe! With 3 out of 4 making it past the initial group stages we knew we had a great chance of winning. After the first knockout round we still had Diogo, Luke and Joe as the final 4, guaranteeing a Sweethaven finalist! However, with Diogo winning his next knockout round against a competitor from Mirus, it guaranteed an all Sweethaven final but most importantly a Sweethaven win!

Rocket League

At the same time that FIFA was running, the remainder of the Sweethaven team, battled out against some tough competition for Rocket League! With Andrew & Jamie getting knocked out in the group stages it was all on Jason and Daryl to get the win! Despite them battling hard and performing extremely well they unfortunately lost to eventual winners Mirus.

Everyone representing Team Sweethaven decided to partake in Fortnite. With this in mind, we rotated between squads and duos to try get wins and or high places to be on the overall leader board! After many, many attempts the highest that any Sweethaven team could finish would be 3rd. However, this was not enough as Air-IT won a game between themselves and ultimately, came out on top in the Fortnite!

Going into the last two games, all 3 MSP’s where tied at 1 victory each. With it all to play for, the Sweethaven team still had some big performances left…

Mario Kart

Daryl and Jason stepped up huge for the Mario Kart. Competing in all the cups on Mario Kart, there was a lot of pressure on their hands.

With the final few races left, we were in a great position and eventually after completing all the cups, Daryl came out on top of everyone! Huge well done to Daryl!

Unreal Tournament

With Unreal Tournament being the final game of the day who would come out on top? Could team Sweethaven lock up the trophy? Or would Mirus or Air battle back? All was on the line…

After some intense gaming and battling on Unreal Tournament, the Sweethaven League came out on top of not only Unreal Tournament, but the whole tournament! Massive well done to all who competed in Unreal Tournament and came out with the win!

By getting this win, Sweethaven confirmed victory and as shown above, the title of the ‘MSP Showdown Winners 2018’.

Gaming aside, it was a great day meeting new people and most importantly raising £738 for Macmillan Cancer Support!

It was an enjoyable day for everyone involved! Thank you to Mirus-IT for hosting a great event and also Air-IT for bringing the great competition!

We look forward to defending our crown soon…

Over time, we have learned to love and hate video game characters. Through playing each of their respective video games, we all have our favourite, least favourite and most iconic characters. So, who made the cut for Sweethaven’s Top 10 Video Game Characters?

In this list, we will be including some classic characters as well as some more recent video game characters. Read our list below and tell us what you think!

  1. Mario and Luigi

Perhaps the most iconic video game character of all time, Mario has over the years taken us on a number of amazing adventures all over the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond. When he isn’t rescuing Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser, he indulges in all kinds of other activates like Golf, Tennis, Kart Racing and even the Olympics!

We also couldn’t forget his brother Luigi, so he also gets an honourable mention here, as he always has his brother’s back throughout their many adventures.

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog

Since his debut in 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog has constantly sped onto our TV’s with lightning speed and joined by his trustee sidekicks Knuckles and Tails, they have been thwarting the plans of world domination from Doctor Robotnik/Eggman. Whilst the recent Sonic games have not followed the path of the classics, we still love Sonic the Hedgehog.

  1. Crash Bandicoot & Spyro the Dragon

With Crash Bandicoot, there is never a dull moment. He is a fun character who is always on an adventure, ready to stop his creator, Dr Neo Cortex, who is always cooking up another way to take over the world.

Spyro and his loveable friend Sparx the Dragonfly are much the same. When any of the baby dragons are in danger of being stolen or his land is in danger, Spyro jumps into action, ready to burn whoever is in his way

For many, Crash and Spyro were the first games we played, so for that, they earn a spot on this list.

  1. Pikachu

When it comes to the Pokémon franchise, there is no-one more recognisable than Pikachu. Having been the star of many of his own games, and appearing on our TV’s with his Trainer Ash, he has become the face of the Pokémon brand.

Anytime Pokémon is mentioned, you can bet that the first thing people think, is probably Pikachu.

  1. Link

The Hero of Time from the Legend of Zelda series, Link has become one of Nintendo’s most recognised characters. Traveling across Hyrule with his trusty horse Epona, he is always ready to save the Princess Zelda from the evil clutches of Ganon and his minions.

Having starred in what many consider being some of the best games of all time, Link is more than deserving of a place on this list.

  1. Cloud Strife

Mainly recognised from his appearance in Final Fantasy VII. Cloud has become, probably the most recognisable character in the entire Final Fantasy universe. He might be quiet and often misunderstood, but together with his Buster Sword, he is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with, and he certainly isn’t going to let Sephiroth get away.

Final Fantasy VII is considered to be one of the best RPG’s of all time, and for that, and the fact that we are all excited for the new Remake in 2018/19, Cloud gets a spot on this list.

  1. Sora

Sora, from the Kingdom Hearts series has become a hit with Disney fans and RPG fans alike. With his story continuing with the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3, his story is deep and immersive and is still growing. When Sora, Kairi and Riku all split up in the first Kingdom Hearts, who would’ve thought that they would end up being the most important pieces to the universe?

We here at Sweethaven cannot wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 later this year!

  1. John ‘Soap’ MacTavish

Part of the British Special Air Service and the Bravo Team, Soap was a main character for the first 2 Modern Warfare games and briefly in the 3rd. He was an extremely fun character to play and his story arc is great, all the way up to his unfortunate end.

  1. Ezio Auditore De Firenze

From the moment you start Assassin’s Creed 2, we live and experience the development of the brilliant character that is Ezio Auditore. From the young man who watches the death of his father and two brothers to the master Assassin who does as he pleases, Ezio is certainly a legendary character.

  1. Master Chief

When it comes to video game legends, there aren’t many much more popular than Master Chief from Halo. With Spartan 117 in the mist of all the action, every Halo game with Master Chief was a great adventure. Almost every mission seemed impossible but he never failed.

So there it is! Our Top 10 Video Game Characters suggested by our Sweethaven team. What do you make of our list? Agree or disagree? Who did we miss out? Let us know down below!

As mentioned, there were many activities for everyone who attended the event. There were competitions with prizes, custom gaming PC building and much more.

We begin with the Terra UK Racing Rig. The Rig is an awesome set-up that allowed everyone to compete to achieve the fastest lap. What made this even better was the fact that Terra were kind enough to give away an Android Tablet.

With this in mind, at the end of the day we had a winner and a well-deserved winner! Liam’s incredible racing wasn’t beaten and ultimately he was the winner. Great racing Liam! We hope you enjoy your Tablet.

We also had Cooler Master bring down their HTC Vive as well as their awesome Master Ride:

Inside the van and in-store we hosted a Fortnite tournament. There were prizes to be won and things got heated but eventually we got three winners:

Above are two of our lucky winners with their Cooler Master swag.

Cooler Master were also kind enough to give away a keyboard and mouse bundle to our last winner.

Throughout the day, our Gaming Specialists taught these guys how to build their own custom gaming PC:

To summarise, Saturday was an extremely fun day for everyone. There was plenty to do and with prizes to win, everyone brought their A game. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who attended the event!

Our next event is coming soon. If you want to be the 1st the hear about then sign up to our Gaming Group. Members of the Sweethaven Gaming Group receive exclusive emails about our events, new stock and any other gaming related content.

It’s been 4 years since we last saw the web slinging hero on our consoles after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which, let’s just say, wasn’t the game that Spidey deserved, given that the movie the game was based on, was actually quite good. However, Spider-Man is back in the limelight, thanks to Insomniac (The same studio behind such games as the original Spyro trilogy and the Ratchet and Clank series) forming a partnership with Marvel, determined to give the web slinger the game he deserves. The big question is however, did they do him justice?

Well, this review comes from someone who isn’t’ that much of a comic book fan. When this game was being hyped up, I have to admit, that I had no intention on picking the game up. Sure, it looked really good from the trailers and the previews, but nothing about that really grabbed my attention. Then the game launched, and I managed to catch some gameplay from a good friend who was streaming the game online. After watching him for about 20 minutes, I was hooked, and I decided then that I wanted try it for myself.

It’s not very often that a game captivates me just as much as this game did, but as soon as I started to play, it just felt right. It’s hard to convey what I mean by that, but let me try and explain.
The first thing is that the game just feels fun to play. Spider-Man is a joy to control, both swinging around the city and in combat. It’s clear that a lot of time had gone into making the web swinging feel perfect, and it shows. Never have I had so much fun, just swinging around the city, taking in everything and listening to the things Peter comes out with or the occasional ramblings of J.J Jameson, constantly painting Spidey as a criminal.

And that’s not going into all of the other things there are to do in this game. The city map is full of things to collect, take pictures, side missions and a lot more as the game opens up through the story and there is incentive to go and do all of things on the side too, as these give you tokens that allow you to work through upgrading your web gear and buying more suits, which in turn give you more perks and abilities to use while in combat.

Combat takes a few cues from the Batman Arkham series of games, but manages to make it feel all its own. Each punch and kick emits a satisfying crunch when connecting, and when an enemy is coming in to take a swing back at you, Spidey emits a blue aura around him, giving you just enough time to dodge out of the way and counter them. You also have a wealth of gadgets at your disposal, which really helps make each fight a pleasure, and allows you to tune your suits, gear and abilities to exactly whatever suits your playstyle. Each fight becomes a challenge to see just how long you can hold a combo for, which in turn powers up your suit to heal yourself or trigger a takedown move on an enemy. Deciding which of these to do in any given situation adds a nice depth to the combat.

Who knew the PS4 could make a game look this good! The game looks stunning and if you have a PS4 Pro, playing this game at 4K is something else, and to top it all off, the game almost never drops frames, even during some of the more intense cut-scenes and gameplay moments. All of the cut-scenes are rendered in game, and look the part.
Voice work is also a stand-out. Not only do all of the cast sound exactly as you would expect, but Spidey sounds different depending on what you are doing during some of the conversations. If you are perched on a building while talking, he sounds clear and concise. If you’re on the move while talking however, Spidey sounds out of breath.

It’s clear that a lot of time and love has gone into this game, and it shows in spades. Insomniac have knocked it out of the park with the Spider-Man licence and given him the game he deserves.

It’s not without its flaws however. I did encounter a few bugs and glitches while playing and at one point, I did manage to soft-lock the game after a mission failed to advance to the next section, but this was easily fixed with a reload of the game.

With DLC for the game coming soon and word of a possible sequel (The door was left wide open at the end of the game), there has never been a better time to give Spider-Man a swing…
